The energy-stored spring seal is composed of a sealing shell made of polymer material and a corrosion-resistant stainless steel metal spring. The sealing ring is installed in the groove, and the spring is compressed to form an outward tension, which pushes the sealing lip to approach the sealing groove. Since the spring permanently provides an elastic force to the sealing lip, it can compensate for the wear of the sealing shell and the eccentricity of the mating parts, thus enabling the sealing from vacuum to low pressure environments. In addition, the system pressure will assist the spring to accumulate energy. The greater the pressure, the more fully the sealing lip fits the groove, thereby forming a high-pressure seal.
The sealing shell is made by mechanically processing PTFE, filled PTFE, PEEK, filled PEEK, PVDF, PPS or other high-performance polymer materials. Due to its materials, this energy-stored spring seal is suitable for the temperature range from -268°C to +427°C, and can seal almost all liquids, chemicals and gases. It can store energy indefinitely without worrying about aging.
There are many types of metal springs to choose from, including O-shaped springs, V-shaped springs, and U-shaped springs to meet the sealing requirements of different forms of motion. In some occasions, O-rings of different materials can be used as elastic parts instead of metal springs.
