Gaoke Lecture | Installation Methods and Precautions for Metal Flexible Hoses
Time of issue:2026-03-30

Metal flexible hoses, with their excellent flexibility, resistance to high and low temperatures, and corrosion resistance, have become an indispensable core connector in piping systems. The proper installation and use of these hoses directly affect the operational stability and safety of the entire piping system. Gaoke Rubber & Plastics has been deeply involved in the piping connection field for over twenty years, accumulating rich practical experience. The installation methods and precautions for metal flexible hoses are summarized below:
I. Pre-Installation Inspection
√ Verify parameters
Confirm that the hose model, nominal size (DN), design pressure (Ps), and temperature range comply with system requirements.
√ Visual inspection
Inspect the hose surface for no dents, the wire braid for no broken wires, and the fitting sealing surfaces for no damage.
√ Length validation
Ensure the hose length meets installation requirements and provide adequate flexibility allowance.
II. Installation and Use
Bend Radius Control (see the table below for details)
· During static installation, the bending radius shall be ≥ the static bending radius Rj.
· During dynamic use, the bending radius shall be ≥ the dynamic bending radius Rd.
· Avoid sharp bends or twisted installations. 。
Standardized Connection
· When flange connections are made, bolts shall be tightened evenly and symmetrically.
· When making threaded connections, avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the threads.
· Ensure that the joint is aligned with the pipeline centerline to minimize additional stresses.
Installation posture
· The hose shall be installed in a natural, relaxed manner, avoiding forced stretching or compression.
· Provide an appropriate amount of expansion compensation (recommended at 5%–10% of the hose length).
Smooth operation
· During system startup, slowly increase the pressure to the operating pressure to prevent pressure surges.
III. Notes and Prohibitions
• Conduct regular inspections, checking the surface condition of the hose and the sealing of the joints monthly.
• Immediately stop using and replace the hose if broken wires are found in the braided sleeve, the corrugated pipe is deformed, or there is a leak.
• Do not use under excessive pressure or temperature.
• Do not force installation when the bending radius is insufficient.
• Avoid using the hose in a twisted state.
• Do not use a hose to replace a rigid pipe to bear tensile loads.
